The challenge
Northbeam's business customers were exporting their data to spreadsheets because the old dashboard answered the bank's questions, not theirs. Owners wanted to know one thing first: how much money they could safely spend this month.
The approach
I ran diary studies with fifteen business owners and turned their recurring questions into the structure of the dashboard. Cash flow, upcoming payments and tax set-asides moved to the top, and every chart got a plain-language summary written with the support team.
The outcome
Weekly active use of the dashboard doubled within three months of launch, and spreadsheet exports fell by 41 percent. The component library we built now powers Northbeam's mobile app too.
